Myometrial tumors are benign leiomyomas formed of whorly bundles of mature smooth muscles separated by a fibrous stroma. Endometrium is non-secretory, it is formed of slightly branching glands lined by 1-2 layers of cells. Stroma is cellular. No evidence of complex glandular pattern. No evidence of atypia or malignancy. Some of the hyperplastic endometrium are seen embedded within superficial myometrium. Both ovaries show corpora albicans. Fallopian tubes are unremarkable.
Uterine masses, abnormal uterine bleeding.
Subtotal hysterectomy showing a uterus measured 8 x 5.5 x 4.5 cm, with myometrium measuring 2.3 cm and endometrium measuring 0.4 cm, with multiple intramural fibroid masses, the largest measuring 3 x 2.5 x 2.5 cm. The right ovary measured 3 x 2 x 1 cm, with the right tube 5 x 0.5 cm, and the left ovary measured 2 x 1.5 x 0.8 cm, with the left tube 5 x 0.5 cm. Both ovaries and tubes had no significant pathologic changes.
