Intact rectal mucosa showing moderate infiltration by lymphocytes and plasma cells. Lymphocytes aggregate in some foci to form lymphoid follicles with active germinal centers. There is complete absence of ganglion cells of the submucosal (Meissner's) and myenteric (Auerbach's) nerve plexuses Picture is consistent with aganglionic segment (Hirschsprung's disease).
History of chronic constipation and passing stool every 2-3 days with only suppository laxative. Full thickness rectal biopsy to rule out Hirschsprung disease.
