A benign soft tissue tumor of peripheral nerve origin. Tumor is formed of irregular and short bundles of proliferating spindle cells with separating abundant stroma. Stroma shows short collagen bundles (shredded carrots appearance) and in many foci it is loose, edematous and myxoid. Anaplasia is mild and mitosis is not active. Picture of spindle cell tumor with myxoid change of possible peripheral nerve sheath origin. Marker study (MDM2, SOX10, S-100 and Ki-67) is recommended for definitive typing and estimation of biologic potential.
