The cytological preparation demonstrates a background of abundant, inspissated, and reticulated proteinaceous material (polymerized hyaluronic acid), consistent with a high-viscosity mucinous matrix. The cellularity is overall low to moderate, characterized by a predominance of scattered mononuclear cells (lymphocytes and monocytes) with a minor component of polymorphonuclear leukocytes. There is no evidence of acute suppurative inflammation, intracellular bacteria, or diffuse neutrophilic aggregation. No evidence of atypical or malignant cells.
