Histologic examination reveals a true diverticular structure composed of all layers of the small intestinal wall, including mucosa, submucosa, muscularis propria, and serosa. The lining mucosa predominantly exhibits small intestinal architecture with villi and crypts, which are infiltrated by a moderate mixed inflammatory cell population comprising neutrophils, lymphocytes, and plasma cells. The submucosa is expanded by edema and vascular congestion.
