Nodular hyperplasia of prostatic glands and the fibromuscular stroma. Glands exhibit focal cystic change with epithelial infoldings. The normal lobular pattern is preserved and cytologic features are unremarkable. Stroma shows focal infiltration by lymphocytes and plasma cells. No evidence of malignancy.
Lower urinary tract symptoms and urinary retention. Ultrasound imaging revealed an enlarged prostate with an estimated volume of 67 grams. A transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) was performed. The provisional clinical diagnosis is benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
